When we heard that the newly renovated Tewkesbury Park Hotel was offering a Canine Retreat Package, complete with doggie treats, ‘Dogs Dinners’ and more, we just had to pay a visit.
Set in 163 acres of Gloucestershire parkland, with its own 18-hole golf course, it sits in a slightly elevated position with lovely views of the Cotswold and Malvern hills plus glimpses of Tewkesbury town and its abbey. Barney liked the view.
Our dog-friendly room was newly decorated in classic brown tweeds and greens, and Barney soon settled in.
The room looked out onto its own green garden space which was nice to sit out on a warm day.
Barney got his own luxury Hunt & Wilson wooden dog bed….
…which he enjoyed lounging on to watch the birdies outside.
He also got a Hunt & Wilson feeding station …..
….complete with special treats..
There’s a pool, gym and a spa at the hotel where you can leave exhaustion behind and find peace. I was lucky enough to indulge in a soothing Swedish Back, Neck and Shoulder massage which ironed out a lot of tension from my neck and back. Choose one from four oils for your treatment – invigorating, calming, seaweed or Raw Virgin Coconut from the Natural Spa Factory, Bath.
Dogs aren’t allowed in all parts of the hotel but there’s a lovely small piano bar where they can accompany you for a pre-dinner drink.
There is the option to eat here with your dog, but we decided to let Barney sleep in our room whilst we went to the hotel restaurant to enjoy a delicious meal.
The food was particularly special – featuring local produce such as Gloucester Old Spot Pork served three ways, Grafton Farm Lamp Rump and Revills Farm Asparagus.
Everything was beautifully cooked, served and presented – as you can see.
And how pretty were these desserts?
Delicate edible flowers poised over pretty pink poached rhubarb, zesty lemon polenta cake and a white gin and tonic sorbet.
A creamy yellow white chocolate and passionfruit pannacotta enhanced by subtle spots of the most delicious blood orange sorbet scattered with a toasted almond crumble. Almost too pretty to eat.
You can play croquet in the grounds and enjoy walks through neighbouring fields to Tewkesbury town which we found to be really dog-friendly
There are plenty of alleys to explore, pretty riverside walks, the Abbey of course and lots of dog-friendly shops and coffee and cake shops to enjoy.
