Tour the Santiago Bernabéu stadium

the stunning stadium

Home to Real Madrid, this impressive stadium is named after the club’s legendary president who led the club between 1943 and 1978. It opened in 1947 and can hold 81,044 spectators, has 245 VIP boxes and four restaurants.

The Bernabéu Tour takes you around the club’s most iconic spots from the Presidential Balcony to the pitch itself, to the coaches’ heated ergonomic seats in the bench area and the players’ dressing rooms (bet you can’t resist a selfie next to their favourite player’s locker?)

There’s also an Exhibition of trophies, shirts, balls, photographs and documents plus interactive screens documenting some of the team’s greatest moments

Take the Madrid Teleférico
The city cable car gives you a bird’s eye view of Madrid’s historic buildings, highways, parks and gardens above the traffic jams and noise below. The system has 80 cabins that travel 1.5 miles in 11 minutes, at a maximum altitude of 131 feet above ground level. There’s also a digital Planetarium, offering simulations of the diurnal and night sky the first Sunday of each month.

Ride the Parque de Atracciones, Casa de Campo
Most teens love a theme park and this one is conveniently placed in the city’s biggest green space, the Casa de Campo . Ride roller coasters, take a refreshing dip in Los Rápidos, go to the 4D cinema and – if you’re brave enough – visit The Walking Dead Experience.

haggle at the Rastro

A tradition not to be missed. If you like haggling for a bargain, head to this flea market, open every Sunday in the La Latina district, around Ribera de Curtidores, with Plaza de Cascorro at its nerve centre. It sells everything from vintage furniture to clothes, crafts and toys and you can round off your visit with an aperitif and squid sandwich in  the surrounding streets.
